Youth at the Jenkintown Arts Fest
Jason Slowik, the Middle School/High School Art teacher, was sitting on a bench in Yorkway Place. \”Your daughter organized that section,\” he pointed out. I like Jason, and I\’m glad Kate can have him for home room. He takes an interest in people and their paths to learning – and not just kids.
This morning, I was looking through photos to use as reference to draw. I came across a photo I took at the fest. Catherine had done a nice portrait of her older sister, Adelyn. It\’s really good. Next to it was a quote that Kate painted. She googled \”quotes\” and came up with :
Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.
As I walked around the festival, I found an atmosphere of appreciation for the collaboration and effort put in by each other. And I\’m glad that my kids and so many other Jenkintown kids can help with.
Even though I\’m not personally involved, I really appreciate the continued effort of everyone who is. I got to hear friends play music and see friends at various booths or walking along the street. It\’s a great event. And for many kids in Jenkintown, their contributions to putting on the Arts Fest will be a defining memory of what it means to grow up in a town that is a community.
To Melissa, Sok, Stuart, Allyson, Jason, Borough staff, Pioneer and so many others – thank you!
