First day of frost
Maybe the maple leaf fell in our backyard.
Now it’s in the front yard by the street. When I saw it,
I went back into the house and got my phone to take a picture.
Frost covers the leaves, and it covers every blade of grass and every wild violet.
Those plants, the grass and the violets, have fought for dominance all summer.
I chose not to control them as I watched the birds hop around in the spring.
I don’t want wild violets in my yard, and I could take action. I could crawl on hands and knees, plucking wild violets. I’m just not that person at the moment. I could pay someone to do it for me. But then again, maybe it’s just not a priority.
