At DelDOT this morning – love the roundabout
I arrived at the Delaware Department of Transportation at 8:00 this morning and promptly held a video conference with Angela, my assistant before heading into a 9:00 meeting. I appreciate DelDOT’s exemplary use of the roundabout at the main entrance to the campus.
Here are a couple of reasons why DelDOT and other state DOTs are promoting the use of roundabouts.
- They move 30% more traffic at peak hours
- The reduce fatalities and serious injuries by 90%
And they reduce electricity usage when replacing traffic signals!
I really like the bus shelter by DelDOT’s main entrance as well. It has clear sides and roof. And it has nice dimensions. It’s much like what I’ve seen in Amsterdam.
It’s exciting to see state DOTs advocating for the improvement of transportation for people whether they are driving, biking, walking, or getting around by other means.
